Here are some of the steps taken in building my watercooled Athlon system..... |
Here is the Radeon LE which has been modded into a full Radeon 32mb DDR card, this involves a registry tweak and overclocking both the core and memory. Note custon aluminum heatsinks on the memory, a fan will be added shortly |
Here is the radiator modded with 3/8" barbs and lexan air shroud it will be mounted in the front of the case with a 120mm fan connected to a 12 amp Rheostat. |
In this picture you can see the Lexan Waterblock on the left and the backside of the junction box with contains the 85gph mag drive pump. I installed three red LED's Through the back of the box to illuminate the antifreeze/water mixture which makes it easy to see the liquid returning into the res. to gauge flow characteristics. |
A shot of the test fitting without powersupply, cables, or filter. Oh yeah and the modded pump box with a little porthole in the side..Copyright 2001* |
Close-up of the waterblock filling itself, note active cooling on the northbridge chip. |
Still missing the second power supply, (located above the original) and of course the side panels. The egg crate foam is used to reduce noise and vibrations. |
Blury shot of the completed system, see the tape on top of the Radeon? Thats covering a thermal probe attached to the 80mm fan located right below it, the fan spins down when the card is cool and of course speeds up during 3D applications to provide additional cooling (Note: the fan is powered by a 3-pin header allowing the rpm to be displayed in MBM serving as kind of a ghetto temp gauge) |
I removed the front door here to show the drive bays, its hard to see in this bad photo but between the CD drive are two knobs connected to 12 amp Rheostats, one for the 120mm radiator fan and the other for the two Golden Orb fans located directly below serving as Hard Drive coolers for the 40gb 7200rpm Fireball drive as well as another 6 gig data drive. |
I swear I'm going to get some better pics soon......anyway another shot of the system showing the red anodized filter and the T junction filler/bleeder. |
So after all this work what are the results? Well i have a 1.4Ghz Athlon that now runs at 1.6 with STOCK voltage,I'm waiting to put in the second PSU before cranking it, the water temp never goes above 83 degrees F with processor temps at 100F at full load (prime95). I'll post benchmark results as soon as i get the NIC installed. |
1.4@1.6 Athon Epox 8kha Mobo Radeon 32Mb DDR 40Gb Fireball drive Tv Tuner 512 MB DDR ram 52x CD 12x/8x/32x Sony Burner And of course more money in the watercooling setup than i care to think about |
